Rubin ist die rote Varietät des Minerals Korund. Sein Name leitet sich von der lateinischen Bezeichnung „Rubinus“ ab und diese vom Wort „ruber“, was rot bedeutet. Gefunden wurde er aber schon vor mehr als 2000 Jahren und in der alten Sanskritliteratur erwähnt.
Ruby is the red variety of the mineral corundum. Its name is derived from the Latin name “Rubinus” and this from the word “ruber”, which means red. But it was found more than 2,000 years ago and mentioned in ancient Sanskrit literature.
